DC Area Turkey Trots & Races
Thanksgiving is traditionally a day full of family and eating until you are physically uncomfortable. In many US households it is also a day of football and relaxation. But were you aware that more than one million Americans have a different tradition to kick off this typically food-based holiday? Yes, we are talking Turkey Trots!
Turkey Trots are not a new concept, in fact, the first ever public footrace that called itself a ‘Turkey Trot’ took place in 1896 in Buffalo New York. The race has been held every year, even during World War I, the 1918 flu pandemic, World War II, and the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. Today, participants run in over 1,000 races on Thanksgiving, making it the most popular day of the year to race.
It may seem shocking that a holiday that boasts gluttony would also be famous for exercise, but we like to think that’s just healthy balance. So, if you are looking for a guilt-free excuse to go for thirds this Thanksgiving, check out these five worthy Turkey Trots near you!
