Thanksgiving is traditionally a day full of family and eating until you are physically uncomfortable. In many US households it is also a day of football and relaxation. Turkey Trots are not a new concept, in fact, the first ever public footrace that called itself a ‘Turkey Trot’ took place in 1896 in Buffalo New York. The race has been held every year, even during World War I, the 1918 flu pandemic, World War II, and the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. Today, participants run in over 1,000 races on Thanksgiving, making it the most popular day of the year to race.
