Meet the Titan Team: Thomas Miles

Every few months, we like to spotlight one of our wonderful Titan Tree Care team members.  This month, I’d like to introduce Thomas Miles.

Thomas, or Tom as we call him, is an ISA Certified Arborist, Maryland licensed Tree Expert, Virginia Consulting Forester, Certified Pesticide Applicator, guitar and mandolin player and avid outdoorsman.  Tom grew up in Maryland, but also spent time in Coastal South Carolina and Maine before heading back to the Virginia area with his family where he joined the Titan team.  Today he lives in Piedmont Forest in Prince William County, Virginia along the Occoquan River with his wife, two boys and the family Mountain Cur.  Having always been fascinated with the natural world, a career in arborism was a perfect fit.  “Trees are the largest plant on the planet; they give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilize the soil, and give life to the world’s wildlife.  Trees are vital for life”.  It’s no wonder that Tom pursued this passion with higher education from Johns Hopkins University with a BS in Environmental Earth Science and Ecology, a BS in Wildlife Sciences, Fisheries Sciences and Forestry and a Minor in Biology, Botany and Environmental Geography from Frostburg State University (University Of Maryland), and finally Continuing Education/Graduate Studies in Forestry and Natural Resources from the University of New Hampshire.  In the evenings, you’ll find Tom sipping an IPA listening to celtic or bluegrass music, often joining in on his guitar.  In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors; trail running, mountain biking, backpacking, kayaking, or fishing, usually with his two young sons in tow.  As a fun tid-bit to end on, the best advice Tom has ever been given comes from his Grandfather Miles “Never let the truth get in the way of a good story”, which might explain all those big fish he’s caught!
